Playing Italy was a good experience for us: Cuba coach

Cuba captain Diaris Perez attacks against Italy

Sapporo, Japan, October 2, 2018 – Italy cruised past Cuba 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 25-20) on the third day of action in the FIVB Women’s World Championship at Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center on Tuesday. Despite the loss, Cuba coach Tomas Fernandez said it was good experience for his young players.

Cuba coach Tomas Fernandez: I want to congratulate the Italian team. I’m sure they will be one of the contenders in this World Championship. This was a good experience for us. We are still young and it was great to have a chance to play Italy. They won 3-0 but it was a good match for both teams.

(Re. introduction of two left-handed players for the second set): We lacked concentration and a good mental attitude in the first set, so I had to make a change, but also we wanted the players to get experience. As a result of the change, we performed better.

Cuba captain Diaris Perez: First, congratulations to Italy. Compared to our previous games, I feel we are improving and today we were able to concentrate a little bit better. But even though we can say we’re getting better, the Italian team’s level is still beyond us. So, we just have to make a fresh start for our next game.

Italy captain Cristina Chirichella: It was a very good game and we were able to maintain our concentration for the whole game. It wasn’t an easy game but we were able to win 3-0, so I’m satisfied with the result.

Italy coach Davide Mazzanti: Today, our aim was to get a good result and we were able to do that, so I am satisfied. We were focused on stable play; it was not easy but we were able to win. Our goal is to get to the Final 6.

Italy No. 16 Lucia Bosetti: I’m glad we could win. We have had good wins so far, so I’m satisfied with that.
