The Drawing of Lots for the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship was held at The Keio Plaza Hotel in Tokyo on December 7, 2017 under the supervision of Mr Achilleas Mavromatis, member of the FIVB Board of Administration.
A total of 24 countries were drawn into four pools for the first round.
The top 8 teams in the world ranking as of August 2017, were placed across the four pools in accordance with the serpentine system. Hosts Japan (world No.6) were placed in position 1 before the remaining 7 teams followed.
The remaining 16 teams were drawn across the bottom four positions of each of the four first round pools.
A total number of 244 teams participated in the qualification process for the 2018 FIVB Volleyball World Championships. This total, coming from 137 national federations across the five FIVB confederations.
There were 118 teams that played in the qualification process for the Women’s World Championship.
