Azerbaijan and Trinidad & Tobago meet for the first time

 

Kobe, Japan, October 3, 2018 - Azerbaijan and Trinidad & Tobago will be facing each other for the first time in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship.

Head-to-head
• This will be the first match between Azerbaijan and Trinidad & Tobago at major world level.
• World level major competitions are: Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix, Grand Champions Cup and Nations League.

Azerbaijan
• Azerbaijan opened their 2018 World Championship with a 3-0 loss against United States, a 3-1 win against Republic of Korea and a 3-0 loss against Russia.
• Azerbaijan could book their second win at the 2018 World Championship. In both of their last two appearances (2006, 2014), they had four total wins.
• Azerbaijan could lose back-to-back World Championship matches, which would equal their longest losing streak within a single edition (once in each of their previous three participations).
• Polina Rahimova remained one of the most prolific scorers at the 2018 World Championship. After her match-high 19 points against Russia, Rahimova now has 66 total points in the tournament.

Trinidad & Tobago
• Debutants Trinidad & Tobago started their World Championship campaign with losses against Russia, United States and Thailand.
• They lost their first two matches in straight sets, before claiming their first set in a 3-1 defeat against Thailand: 25-23 in the third.
• Trinidad & Tobago won one of their six matches in their previous world level major competition, the 2017 World Grand Prix. They defeated Australia 3-1 in front of a home crowd in Port of Spain.
• Channon Thompson is her team's top scorer at this World Championship with 33 points, two more than her compatriot Krystle Esdelle (31).
