We were aggressive today: Italy coach Mazzanti

Italy captain Cristina Chirichella spikes against Canada

Sapporo, Japan, September 30, 2018 – Paola Egonu was the top scorer again as Italy outplayed Canada 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-18) on the second day of the FIVB Women’s World Championship and Italy coach Davide Mazzanti was happy with his team’s performance.

Italy coach Davide Mazzanti: I’m  very content with today’s game. We are improving every day and we were very aggressive today. The players could play as they wanted to and focus in the game.

Italy captain Cristina Chirichella: We played great game so I think that was really good. Canada defended well but we were focused and never gave up.

Canada captain Kyla Richey: It was a physical Italian team and we couldn’t neutralise them in our play. Alexa [Gray] stepped up for us as an offensive weapon and did solid for us but we need other players to step up into that role. Again, we couldn’t really settle into our game today so we still have some work to do going into the next three games.

Canada coach Marcello Abbondanza: Today, we played a little better especially in some pass and sideout situations but we are still far short of these two teams. We have China in our next match and I hope we continue to grow up but today we continued to show a bad attitude in our block and defence so we have to work on these situations. We started to show something but for sure it’s not enough to play at this level.
