We want to understand where we stand - Mazzanti

Lausanne, Switzerland, August 7, 2018 - With less than two months to go until the start of the 2018 FIVB Women's World Championship in Japan, four of the top teams of Europe get together in the Netherlands for one of their first tests ahead of the international federation's flagship event.

"After several weeks of training we have the opportunity to test the work done in the gym," said Italy coach Davide Mazzanti as his team currently takes on Russia, the Netherlands and Turkey. "In this tournament we will face three very good teams and therefore it will be a very interesting test for us. We want to understand where we are and how much is still to be done."

The four sides participate in the Rabobank Super Series Volleyball tournament, already underway in the Dutch cities of Hoogeveen and Eindhoven.

The World Championship begins on September 29 across four Japanese cities and culminates with the medals matches on October 20 in Yokohama.

"Actually playing is always very different from training and the competitions will be used to find the right balance with the hope of growing day by day, just as happened during the Volleyball Nations League." continued Mazzanti, whose team just missed out on making the finals of the inaugural edition of the VNL earlier this year. "On a technical level I'm curious to see how our counterattack will work."

"The beginning of the World Championship is over a month and a half away," concluded the 42-year-old coach. "And I am convinced that there is a huge margin of growth. Already in the past the team proved to be able to improve the situations experienced in training and the VNL has strengthened this conviction."
