This was an important win for us: Turkey captain

Turkey captain Eda Erdem Dundar said the win over Bulgaria on Tuesday was very important

Sapporo, Japan, October 2, 2018 – Turkey got the better of an inconsistent Bulgaria 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-12) on the third day of action in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship at Hokkaido Prefectural Sports Center on Tuesday. Turkey captain Eda Erdem Dundar said the win was very important for her team.

Turkey captain Eda Erdem Dundar: Today was a really important game for us because after our loss to China we were a bit down, so we wanted to keep positive energy in the team with this game. We won 3-0 but every point was important. I think we did a good job, especially in the second set when we were down. We kept fighting and won the set; that was really important. And in the third set, our outside hitters did a great job. We are so happy.

Turkey coach Giovanni Guidetti: I am very happy because this match was very important. We have a lot of respect for Bulgaria. We’ve played them in friendlies and had trouble against them, and today they didn’t make too many mistakes. They didn’t make too many unforced errors so we had to fight for every point. Our block and defence worked very well because their attack percentage was very good, my setter did a good job and our middle blockers were excellent, so I think it was a pretty good match from our side.

Bulgaria coach Ivan Petkov: We want to say sorry for the way we played. This was a bad game for us. We have to think about the next match. Really, this match was very bad. I don’t know what to say, except sorry.

Bulgaria captain Hristina Ruseva: I’m very sorry for losing today. Our team is really young, but I can’t really explain it. I’m really disappointed and sad about this game.
