Schedule set for Second Round as Women's World Championship heats up

 

Serbia lead the teams in Second Round Pool E

Lausanne, Switzerland, October 5, 2018 - Sixteen teams will participate in the Second Round of the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship from October 7 to 11 with a rest day on October 9 after the First Round matches were completed on Thursday, promising more excitement in cities across Japan as the world's top teams play to progress to the finals of the quadrennial event.

The 16 teams in the Second Round will be split into two pools of eight  - the top teams from First Round Pools A and D in Pool E in Nagoya, and the top teams from First Round Pools B and C in Pool F in Osaka. All qualified teams carry over their results from Round 1, as they travel to new venues for their next four matches. The top three teams in each of the two Second Round pools will advance to the Third Round to be played in Nagoya. The semifinals and finals of the competition will be played in Yokohama from October 19 to 20.

Pool E in Nagoya

Second Round Pool E will take place at the Nippon Gaishi Hall in Nagoya and includes Serbia, Netherlands, hosts Japan, Brazil, Germany, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico and Mexico.


Pool F in Osaka

The matches in Second Round Pool F will take place at the Osaka Municipal Central Gymnasium. The pool includes Italy, USA, China, Russia, Thailand, Turkey, Azerbaijan and Bulgaria.




All teams travel to their new host cities and will train at their new venues ahead of the restart of the competition on Sunday.

Travel schedule:
- From Pool A in Yokohama, the Netherlands, Japan, Germany, Mexico travel to Pool E in Nagoya.
- From Pool B in Sapporo, Italy, China, Turkey, Bulgaria travel to Pool F in Osaka.
- From Pool C Kobe, the United States, Russia, Thailand and Azerbaijan travel to Pool F in Osaka.
- From Pool D in Hamamatsu, Serbia, Brazil, the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico travel to Pool E in Nagoya.
