Bangkok, Thailand, September 1, 2017 - Hosts Thailand will play for one of the two slots up for grabs at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Japan 2018 when the Asian Qualifier Pool B encounters take place in Nakhon Pathom from September 20 to 24.

World No.10 South Korea, Asian silver medallists Thailand, DPR Korea, Vietnam and Iran will take part in the single round-robin competition, with only the two best-ranked teams making the cut for next year’s World Championship Finals in Japan.

A press conference was held at Golden Tulip Sovereign Hotel Bangkok on Friday to announce host city Nakhon Pathom’s competition readiness ahead of the kickoff of the five-day contest on September 20. Mr Somporn Chaibangyang, president of the Thailand Volleyball Association, presided over the meeting.

In his speech, Mr Somporn Chaibangyang thanked sponsors and supporters for their vital part in helping Nakhon Pathom host the top-tier competition.

“The tournament is one of the most important to be hosted by Thailand this year. As hosts, I’m upbeat that our team will come up with good form to make their mark in the competition and clinch a berth to compete in the World Championship Finals in Japan next year. Our team have already competed in the Finals several times and with a large crowd of Thai fans cheering them at the venue, I believe our team can make it to the Finals again,” he said.

A total of 24 teams will contest next year’s FIVB Women’s World Championship Finals in Japan from September 29 to October 20, 2018.
