Key Women's World Championship preparation meeting takes place in Lausanne

Representatives from the Japan Volleyball Association, TBS Television and the FIVB met in Lausanne on Thursday and Friday.

Lausanne, Switzerland, October 28, 2016 - Representatives of the Japan Volleyball Association and TBS Television visited the FIVB headquarters for a two-day meeting on Thursday and Friday to discuss preparations for the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Japan 2018.

The meeting marked an important milestone in preparations for a key event for the FIVB as it continues to build on a golden period for the sport following on from the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 on the road to Tokyo 2020.

Discussions focused principally on organisational matters, including the competition calendar and formula. Procedures related to technical timeouts and drawing of lots ceremonies were reviewed as well as venue decoration plans, the use of specific equipment (flooring, nets) and the implementation of the Challenge System. The accommodation and transport of the teams and officials participating in the event completed a busy agenda.

The Japan Volleyball Association was represented by Secretary General Takahiko Hayashi, International Events Division Deputy Managing Director Katsuhiro Hainishi, and by Takahiro Fujino and Aya Takai from the federation's International Events Division. They were joined by TBS Vice President in charge of the Department of Planning and Management, Sports Division Motoyuki Iwama, Producer Hiroshi Uchino and Coordinating Producer Susumu Miwa.

The FIVB Women's World Championship Japan 2018 will take place from September 30 to October 21 and follow on from the highly successful 2014 edition of the FIVB's flagship event for women's national teams, which took place in Italy. It will be the fifth edition of the Women's World Championship to be held in Japan after events in 1967, 1998, 2006 and 2010.

TBS is one of the FIVB's key partners in a country where volleyball enjoys enormous popularity. Japan has been a regular host of the FIVB's top competitions, delivering the thrill of the sport to fans and viewers.
