“The basic group is the one that has been training in Rome since early July, plus some key players from our '2020' team,” Mazzanti said. “I often met with their coach Massimo Bellano and decided to reward the players who excel in training with him by including them in the line-up.

“For the same reason, Caterina Bosetti is in the list because she is putting great efforts into recovering from her injury. I appreciate her commitment and dedication.

“In our next meeting we will reduce the list to 17 athletes and from there, we will select the 14 who will compete in the World Championship.

“The performance of the players in the training sessions, the Gloria Cup in Turkey and the Montreux Volley Masters will be important.”

Fifteen players will resume training at the Giulio Onesti Olympic Training Centre in Rome from August 18 to 22, while Alessia Orro and Laura Melandri train with the National '2020' team at the Darfo Boario Terme until August 25.
