Nagoya, Japan, October 6, 2018 - The eight coaches in Pool E in the second round of the FIVB Women's World Championship met the media here on Saturday afternoon to discuss their hopes for the competition and their team's conditions ahead of the start of play on Sunday.
Brazil coach Jose Guimaraes: My team is in good condition. We lost to Serbia in the first round, but we did play good volleyball in the other games. There are great teams here for the second round.
Dominican Republic coach Marcos Kwiek: Serbia and Brazil are good teams. Our goal was to proceed to the second round. There are more good teams here. This will be a good experience for our players. We can learn from this event.
Germany coach Felix Koslowski: We are in good condition. We had some problems before we left for the tournament with our a middle blocker getting injured. We found a solution and it is working well. We played good volleyball in the five matches in the first round. We showed fighting spirit. I wish we could have won one more set against Japan. We are happy to be here and play against great teams in the second round.
Japan coach Kumi Nakada: In the first round our biggest success was having all the players in their best condition. We are ready to fight. There are good teams in the second round. We are ready to challenge them and show our spirit.
Mexico coach Ricardo Naranjo: Our target was to get through the first round. It has been 36 years since we made the second round at this event. We have a young team that is developing quickly. There are teams from the world top 10 in the second round. We will give all our best.
Netherlands coach Jamie Morrison: We had great battles in the first round against Germany and Japan. We are prepared for the next round. We are excited to try and make our way out of this pool We will do our best.
Puerto Rico coach Jose Mieles: Our goal was to make the second round. We are in good condition. We prepared for this for five weeks before leaving home. Each match will be tough in the second round.
Serbia coach Zoran Terzic: We were satisfied with the first round. We did a great job. We will face good teams in Nagoya. We are in good shape and in a good way. We will try to stay this way through the rest of the tournament. When you beat Brazil in the first round, you know you are ready for an event like this. We showed a high level, power, motivation and energy in the first round.
