Nagoya, Japan, October 11, 2018 - Tandara Caixeta scored a match-high 24 points as Brazil beat Japan 3-2 (23-25, 16-25, 28-26, 25-21, 15-11) in the second round at the FIVB Women's World Championship on Thursday night and the Brazil coach was grateful for the sacrifice of his players.
Japan coach Kumi Nakada: We are going to round three with a chance to win a medal. Our play was far from satisfactory today. We will now proceed to the next round and concentrate on that.
Brazil coach Jose Guimaraes: It was a tough match. We had to win in three sets. It was a difficult situation and a difficult challenge. The first set was close but we could not win. Our players did not give up. We gave our best effort. We learned many things here. Japan volleyball is important in the world and they played well. Our players sacrificed time with their families to be here and I am proud of them.
Japan captain Nana Iwasaka: We wanted to make the third round with a victory but we didn't. Now we have two days off to focus on the third round.
Brazil captain Natalia Pereira: We knew the situation and tried to fight our best but we made mistakes. We were ahead just like against Germany. We could not lose today but we did in a since. We will take this experience to the futgure and work to improve.
Japan player Sarina Koga: We wanted to win in three sets. We are disappointed about losing but will work as a team going forward.
Japan player Yuki Ishii: We should have won in three sets. Even though we lost we still have momentum and will take the games one at a time.
