Italy honours women's National Team with presidential audience

 

Italy President Sergio Mattarella congratulates coach Davide Mazzanti for the country's silver World Championship medal, at the Quirinal Presdential Palace, under the gaze of captain Cristina Chirichella.

Lausanne, Switzerland, October 29, 2018 - The President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella has received the country's Women's National Team at Romen's presdiential Quirinal Palace today, following the side's silver medal at the 2018 FIVB World Championship in Japan earlier this month.

Italy lost to Serbia in the final of the competition on 20 October at Yokohama and came away with the silver medal - the country's second best finish after their gold in the 2002 edition in Berlin.

Accompanying the players and staff in their visit to the Quirinale were the president of Italy's Olympic Committee (CONI) Giovanni Malago and the president of Italy's Volleyball Federation (FIPAV) Pietro Bruno Cattaneo.

Last week Serbia's National Team, who won the title for the first time ever in their history, had been received by Serbia President Aleksandar Vucic before meeting with Belgrade Mayor Zoran Radojicic in the Serbian capital's Town Hall.
