China seek back-to-back wins


Osaka, Japan, October 8, 2018 - After losing to Italy in the first round, China are meeting Azerbiajan and are starting anew for another winning run in the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship.

• China have won all four major world level encounter with Azerbaijan, including two at the World Championships.
• The women's world level major competitions are: the Olympic Games, World Championship, World Cup, World Grand Prix, Grand Champions Cup and the Nations League.
• China won twice at the 2006 World Grand Prix (3-2, 3-1), once at the 2006 World Championship (3-1) and once at the 2014 World Championship (3-0).

• China have won five matches and lost one match at the 2018 World Championship. Their only defeat came in their last match of the first round, against Italy (3-1).
• China could win their sixth match at the 2018 World Championship. In 2014, they registered a team-record 10 wins to reach the final, which they lost 3-1 to United States.
• China could win a fifth match in straight sets at this World Championship. In this century, they reached this tally only once (6 in 2014).
• Ting Zhu is China's leading points scorer in this tournament on 107 points.

• Azerbaijan won two of their six matches at the 2018 World Championship, both in the first round, 3-1 against Republic of Korea and 3-0 versus Trinidad & Tobago.
• Azerbaijan are making their fourth appearance at the World Championship. They had four wins in each of their last two campaigns (2006, 2014).
• Azerbaijan could lose three matches in a row at a single World Championship for the first time.
• Polina Rahimova is among the tournament's most prolific scorers with 121 total points (100 spikes, 8 stuff blocks, 13 aces).
