Oranjes to host third round of European women’s qualification process for 2018 World Championship

The Netherlands finished fifth at the 2017 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix Finals in Nanjing, China.

Rotterdam, Netherlands, August 22, 2017 - The third round of the European qualification process for the 2018 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship in Japan will take place from August 22 to 27 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. The winners and runners-up of the single round robin tournament will earn tickets to Japan.

The Dutch team will attempt to make home-court advantage count after failing to qualify for next year’s World Championship in early June when they lost to Azerbaijan in the second round of the European qualification process in Baku.

They can expect stiff competition from the runners-up of the five remaining second round qualification tournaments: Greece, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Bulgaria and Slovenia.

Silver medallists at the 2015 EuroVolley, the Netherlands, who finished fourth at last year’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, are arguably favourites to claim one of the top spots in this third round qualifier, but there is much to look forward to when these six elite teams take to the court in Rotterdam.
