Jose Mieles will lead Puerto Rico in the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship in Japan

San Juan, Puerto Rico, August 14, 2018 – “We hope to start training as soon as possible and have a strong and healthy team for the World Championship,” said Jose Mieles, who was announced as Puerto Rico women's national team coach on Monday. “The objective is to advance to the second round.”

Speaking about the appointment, Puerto Rico Volleyball Federation president Dr. Cesar Trabanco said: “Jose Mieles has the experience and knowledge, and he has all my support. I believe that he will do an excellent job as he has done in the past.”

Mieles guided Puerto Rico's women’s team from 2013 to 2015. His achievements include a third place finish at the NORCECA Championship in Omaha and two Group 2 finals appearances in the FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix, when the country obtained third and fourth place finishes. Mieles will now turn his attention to guiding Puerto Rico at the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in Japan from September 29 to October 20.

Puerto Rico will play in Group D, where they will face Brazil, Serbia, Dominican Republic, Kazakhstan and Kenya.
